The Parturient State

Ah, the curious changes of the body given over to the parturient state (if you are not familiar with this fabulous vocabulary word, it means to 'bring forth,' or 'bear'). These changes come without warming. For example, 'the whale instinct,' - the subtle art of turning your pregnant belly over in the middle of the night. You have to visualize how the humpback whale might make that glorious mid-air turn - it's all body; using its strength to get from one side to the other.
Let's just say - it takes effort.

A pregnant woman can attest that as her womb rises, her hands rest, rub and naturally place themselves on her growing child. There is genuine giving over of yourself to these changes, and it's not always comfortable. Letting the creative physical force of your body do it's work. Much like letting the authentic process of jewelry-making happen. Allowing the materials to talk to you. Taking the time to listen to how the materials want to be used. And, getting stuck - much like the whale instinct in the middle of the night - and figuring out how to turn over, and manifest something beautiful.

In my parturient state, it comes as no surprise that in the evolution of these pieces, I kept coming back to roundness, wanting to feel connection through circles. In adorning this jewelry, may you 'bring forth' a whole and integral you! Pop on down to Angie Star Jewelry and take a look! Scroll down to see more work from this collection.
